Scout is an independent card and gift shop with a focus on handmade, Canadian and artisanal. We pride ourselves on curating thoughtful goods that we stand behind and feel will offer something special to the homes and lifestyles of you and your loved ones. We believe in eco-consciousness, intentional purchases and practices, inclusivity and community. To our biggest fans, we’re also known as the store with a little something for everyone and the best card selection.
Scout first opened its doors in September of 2011 in beautiful Roncesvalles Village in the west end of Toronto; a vibrant street with an abundance of independent shops, restaurants and Toronto's oldest standing movie theatre, the Revue Cinema. We feel so lucky to be a part of such a supportive community.
Our second location in Leslieville opened in Nov 2018! We're so grateful that Scout is able to grow and branch out to another community. We're excited to be part of another wonderful thriving community.
Scout is owned by Leah Eyles (she/her), a curious and conscious adventurer with over 20 years of experience in the retail industry. Before Scout, Leah managed a small boutique, which helped teach her what goes into running an independent shop and started her on the path to becoming an entrepreneur. She puts a lot of thought and care into each item she brings into the shop and loves adding new and unique offerings. Leah finds Scout’s thoughtfully curated collection through online research and in-person meetings at trade shows as well as small craft and gift shows. She is Scout’s boots on the ground, our fearless and kind leader, and our warmest smile.
Our community is what keeps us moving forward and that support allows us to give back. Donating to local charities and initiatives is a big part of our business model and we will continue to give back as long as we're around to do so! Over our almost 10 years in business we've been able to give back to so many incredible organizations:
Food Banks Canada
Black Lives Matter
Black Legal Action Centre
Parkdale Community Food Bank
Action Canada For Sexual Health and Rights
Red Door Shelter
Native Women's Association of Canada
Black Women In Motion
Nia Centre for the Arts
The Legacy Hope Foundation
Indigenous Residential School Survivors Society
Canadian Women's Foundation
.. and many more!
