I heart mom.. cont’d!

Posted on

So Mother’s Day is next Sunday, that’s Sunday May 13th everyone! If you haven’t already gotten your mom something to celebrate her day, there’s still time.

Here are some more suggestions!

Beautiful handmade frames 4×6 & 3.5×3.5 in lots of unique, original designs!

For the horse loving, tea drinking mom’s!  A tea cozy handmade by Toronto’s Grace Designs. Also available with a feather print.

A beautiful wood brooch handmade by Toronto’s Touch the Dutch.

New in the shop, Lothantique makes fabulous lotions & soaps.  Green Tea, Grapefruit & Lavender. Made in France.

Owl pillow by Toronto’s Sparrow Ave.  Now available in the larger 20″ size!

We all could use an Erin Templeton bag in our collections.  Adjustable strap, super soft recycled leather and made in Vancouver, what’s not to love!

A great little case for Mom to tote her sunnies or glasses around.  Made by Cokluch in Montreal, all recycled leather!

Toodles in Vancouver just arrived! Fully stocked with her beautiful cameos, including this locket with matching studs.  A classic piece for a classic lady.

Scout’s also loaded with lots of wrapping paper, gift bags & cards to help make it an easy one stop shop!

Mom post not complete without an embarrassing photo of my mom and I from my baby days. Here we are just chilling in our rubber dingy at the cottage we used to rent on Lake Nipissing in North Bay.

Yes I look like a boy. Whatever happened to the blond hair?! My mom on the other hand, babe.

See you soon!

Bags, bags & more bags!

I was a busy bee yesterday! I got lots of new orders in including a plethora of new bags and accessories.

Cokluch is from Montreal.  They use primarily recycled leathers in their bags and some come with a unique silk screen detail.  One of my favourite things about their bags is the way they design the shoulder strap.  It comes with an adjustable snap strap to make your bag an off the shoulder, or over the shoulder!  Brilliant.

Beautiful messenger bags, big enough for a computer.

Cute little button detail and contrasting leathers on these ones.  Available in red, black & brown.

Love this flat shape simple with  just enough detail to make it unique!

Cokluch also does some great accessories.  Mini card holders and sun glass cases.

Grace Designs is another Canadian company.  Really, it’s a one woman show.  Alison Gledhill is the brains behind the beautiful hand dyed fabrics and well crafted designs made in Toronto.

These totes are perfect for the gym or off to class. Leather handles and bottom ensure longevity. Also available in dyed blue.

For the lighter loads these hand dyed shoulder bags are a great every day bag.  Nice and light for Spring!

Messenger bags for boys! I expect some ladies will covet them as well.  Made from 100% recycled canvas. A perfect fit for an ipad.

This company also makes these bamboo, super light weight iphone cases. Also available in plain bamboo.

Also got another order from Track & Field in Vancouver.  Adorable silk screened accessories for iphones, cameras, coins and everything in between!

The shop is looking nice and full these days, I even had to purchase a new piece of furniture to hold it all!

Please welcome my new island to the store.

Also for those of you that live in the neighborhood, or love the neighborhood, be sure to check out Roncesvalles Renewed. It’s a great website focusing on some of the great volunteer efforts and events going on in Roncy.  The Roncesvalles Facebook Page is another great resource to keep on top of all that’s happening with the businesses in the area!  Still a lot of changes happening on the street, so many new restaurants opening.  It really is a great street to spend the day exploring.

HOPE TO SEE YOU!

New fun things in the shop!

Now that Valentine’s is over, I’m getting really excited about all the new product coming in for Spring!  I decided to skip the big gift shows and try to find more from smaller companies.  I’ve still got some stuff from the bigger companies coming in (nothing compares to Fred, Kikkerland and BlueQ) but as always I try to fill the holes with more unique, less mass produced items first!

Found an awesome company from Quebec that makes beautiful blankets, bibs and burp cloths all made with organic, super cute fabrics.  Perfect baby shower gifts!

Who knew it would be such a challenge finding the perfect candle companies for the shop.  It took awhile, but I’m happy with these two new additions to Scout.

Sydney Hale Co. is a company based out of Virginia.  Each soy candle is hand poured, with a double (cotton) wick perfect for an even 50 hours of burning.  Lovely subtle scents and simple packaging make for a perfect house warming gift. As an added bonus, Sydney Hale Co. donates 10% of their profits to an animal rescue foundation.

Voluspa is my other new candle company!  Made from a coconut wax blend they are even cleaner burning than soy. They come in a travel tin or a larger 3 wick size burning for 25 or 60 hrs and they smell HEAVENLY!

Local designer Sparrow Ave. has come out with a bunch of new drawings for 2012.  You may have seen her moose, bear and whale pillows in the shop :) Pictured is one of her tea towels with a new owl drawing.  She’s also doing baby blankets and bibs!

Brooklyn Rehab makes fantastic unique housewares and jewellery.  Pictured below are her super awesome S&P shakers and some of her handmade necklaces.  A welcome addition to the shop :)

Another new company I’ve sourced out is Branch Handmade from California.  Pillowcases, tea towels and scarves all adorned with lovely screen printed photos of ships, horses, owls, bikes and more! Good for the ladies and the gents!

People have let it be known they are really happy with my selection of cards in the shop! I really appreciate the feedback and have quite honestly become border line obsessed researching new potential card lines to bring in.  Pretty happy with these guys, Sycamore Press from Utah.

Henderson Dry Goods was responsible for the really sweet laser cut teepee and totem ornaments I had in here over Christmas.  Her main art is jewellery, laser cut from a walnut veneer with a 14k gold fill, her pieces are stunning.

Nicole Tarasick is designer from Toronto that I found at the One of a Kind show in November.  She makes lovely Canadiana housewares that don’t cross into kitschy territory.  Each graphic is also available on a tote.  So far the YYZ design is the favourite :)

And last but not least, I just got in a new line of jewellery!  Toodles by toodlebunny in Vancouver.  She makes lovely necklaces, rings and earrings that have that vintage charm to them.  All priced very reasonable too, everything is in the $25-$36 range!

Always getting new stuff in the shop, keep checking back!

One week to go until Valentine’s Day!!  Here are some fun gift ideas for the lady loves!

Hobo makes the perfect wallet.  In a bunch of styles and colours, all fashionable AND functional.. and I’ve heard a lot of not so subtle hints being directed towards the significant others in the shop lately :)

A feather vase,  just a little guy, only 5″ tall, ready for giving once you’ve picked up some pretty flowers to fill it! Made in Brooklyn, NY.

Sterling silver necklace by Toronto’s Zippan Designs!

Screen printed chickadee brooches by Toronto’s Genevieve Jodouin.

Peppermint foot creme, to be given with a foot massage of course :)

Branch Handmade is new in the shop! Screen printed scarves with feathers, horses, bikes, owls and more!

Maybe you’re not ready to give a BIG statement gift yet.. Merit Badges by Lee Meszaros are the perfect little thing.

Sterling silver oxidized rose studs by Vancouver’s Mimi & Marge.

And hey… don’t forget the card, it’s just as important as the gift :)

Feel free to forward the link to this page to your Valentine to help them out :)

Track & Field Designs

I had a great little selection of Track & Field from Vancouver, BC when I first opened but they didn’t last long!  Super cute laptop bags can be hard to come by but these are super adorable (and some are even manly!).  They come in a mix of fabrics and screened images with the option of a messenger bag or a laptop sleeve, in 13″ and 15″.

Track & Field isn’t limited to laptop bags either! I couldn’t resist bringing in a few of these little guys too.

Regional Assembly of Text!

When I was in Vancouver a couple years ago my friend said I MUST go check out Regional Assembly of Text on Main St.   I was on a search for new and exciting card lines to bring into my imaginary shop that didn’t yet exist, and going into their adorable little shop inspired me.  Original, beautiful, adorable and innovative cards adorned the shops walls, YAY!  I’ve already sold out of a few styles as they really are one of the best Canadian card companies I’ve sourced out.

Love the To Do line from them. Also comes in an adorable Wedding Card.

They aren’t limited to cards either! They also do some really cute little button packs, including this one for the proud Canadian!

Oh Regional Assembly of Text, you are loved by all!!

The Beautiful Project

I’ve been told there are some shipments on the way, and I thought jewelery from Spruce DesignCo. would be first, but I was wrong.  I got a cute little package of sweet handmade cards from The Beautiful Project in Vancouver today.  These aren’t currently sold anywhere else in Toronto!  Love ‘em!
