Isak and Inger Fall/Winter 2012

Posted on

I can’t say enough about my love for Isak and Inger.  Besides the fact her designs, fabric choices and quality are incredible, knowing it’s a one woman show (Mariel is the designer and creator behind it all) impresses me to the max.  To.The.Max.  Her price points also make her bags accessible to everyone ($120-$190).

Here’s a preview of what is now on the shelves at Scout! YAY!

If you missed out on the bucket bag last year, now is your chance!  New fabrics, same fabulous design.  The guys on the left and right are cotton & suede.  Below is the same bucket bag in the new wool fabric.  All come lined and with an adjustable leather strap!

The Palmerston Totes come in 3 different variations of the new wool fabric.  Fully lined, a snap closure and sturdy leather straps.

The Dovercourt bag has a great thick adjustable leather strap that wraps around and is available in the wool fabric shown below.

Iphone cases are made with traditional Ecuadorian sashes and lined with recycled leather, the hard part is deciding which one to buy! (Psst… they also fit a blackberry quite nicely!)

These handy pouches made of wool and fully lined are a great way to keep all the bits and bobs in your purse nice and organized.   Also a great clutch for a light night out.

This is just the first batch!  There’s more to come! If you’re curious to learn more about Isak and Inger and Mariel herself check out her blog.  It takes you inside her head, which appears to be a very creative, lovely place.

New fun things in the shop!

Now that Valentine’s is over, I’m getting really excited about all the new product coming in for Spring!  I decided to skip the big gift shows and try to find more from smaller companies.  I’ve still got some stuff from the bigger companies coming in (nothing compares to Fred, Kikkerland and BlueQ) but as always I try to fill the holes with more unique, less mass produced items first!

Found an awesome company from Quebec that makes beautiful blankets, bibs and burp cloths all made with organic, super cute fabrics.  Perfect baby shower gifts!

Who knew it would be such a challenge finding the perfect candle companies for the shop.  It took awhile, but I’m happy with these two new additions to Scout.

Sydney Hale Co. is a company based out of Virginia.  Each soy candle is hand poured, with a double (cotton) wick perfect for an even 50 hours of burning.  Lovely subtle scents and simple packaging make for a perfect house warming gift. As an added bonus, Sydney Hale Co. donates 10% of their profits to an animal rescue foundation.

Voluspa is my other new candle company!  Made from a coconut wax blend they are even cleaner burning than soy. They come in a travel tin or a larger 3 wick size burning for 25 or 60 hrs and they smell HEAVENLY!

Local designer Sparrow Ave. has come out with a bunch of new drawings for 2012.  You may have seen her moose, bear and whale pillows in the shop :) Pictured is one of her tea towels with a new owl drawing.  She’s also doing baby blankets and bibs!

Brooklyn Rehab makes fantastic unique housewares and jewellery.  Pictured below are her super awesome S&P shakers and some of her handmade necklaces.  A welcome addition to the shop :)

Another new company I’ve sourced out is Branch Handmade from California.  Pillowcases, tea towels and scarves all adorned with lovely screen printed photos of ships, horses, owls, bikes and more! Good for the ladies and the gents!

People have let it be known they are really happy with my selection of cards in the shop! I really appreciate the feedback and have quite honestly become border line obsessed researching new potential card lines to bring in.  Pretty happy with these guys, Sycamore Press from Utah.

Henderson Dry Goods was responsible for the really sweet laser cut teepee and totem ornaments I had in here over Christmas.  Her main art is jewellery, laser cut from a walnut veneer with a 14k gold fill, her pieces are stunning.

Nicole Tarasick is designer from Toronto that I found at the One of a Kind show in November.  She makes lovely Canadiana housewares that don’t cross into kitschy territory.  Each graphic is also available on a tote.  So far the YYZ design is the favourite :)

And last but not least, I just got in a new line of jewellery!  Toodles by toodlebunny in Vancouver.  She makes lovely necklaces, rings and earrings that have that vintage charm to them.  All priced very reasonable too, everything is in the $25-$36 range!

Always getting new stuff in the shop, keep checking back!

Great gift ideas just in!

Posted on

I tried to plan in advance for Christmas but as a first time Christmas buyer, and only 3 months in to a new business, I had no idea what to expect.  Luckily I’ve had lots of speedy suppliers and designers madly making and dropping off lots of last minute orders to keep the store stocked.  It’s awesome to see so many people are out shopping on Roncesvalles supporting all the new and old businesses.  I’ve said it before and will say it again, I’m so grateful to be a part of such a supportive community.

Now let’s get you  up to speed with some of the new things in the shop that could be that perfect gift you’ve been searching for.

How awesome are these?! Retro inspired Iphone cases!

Hand knit booties by local and lovely Baby Vintage Revival.  Available in 0-6 months and 6-12 months.

Everyone has a Moleskine junky in their lives.  Scout now stocks their notebooks as well as 2012 Agendas!

Lovely scented bubble baths, shea butter lip balms, and these great little gifts sets are all made in France! Ooh La La!

Kristen from Knotted Nest just dropped off a great new selection of her re-purposed fabric coasters, wallets and passport covers.  Good gift ideas for travelers, hostesses and the wallets even come in great neutral/manly fabrics.

The Matroyshka we all love also comes in this pretty drinking carafe, perfect for your nightstand. Also fully stocked with Matroyshka measuring cups again!

So excited to have local Touch the Dutch in the shop! She has a seriously innovative way of designing Canadiana jewelery that doesn’t have the cheese factor.  Here’s one of my favourite coat pins, yes it’s a lumberjack, and yes it’s awesome. Good for the ladies and the lads.

Perfect book for the crafty/artsy/creative type.  Tons of awesome stencils designed by Ed Roth.

Beautiful Ash and Maple cutting boards, as well as coasters and pate servers from Stinson Studios.  A small fanily run company that uses wood from sustainable wood lots, farmer wood piles, and harvested from their own family farm.

And I’ve got more fantastic moose, bear and whale pillows from Sparrow Ave! She’s been sewing up a storm for me.  Who doesn’t want to cuddle up with this great Canadian beast.

5 more days of shopping to go!  Hope this helps give you some ideas to help take the stress off.  It is really great when you find that perfect gift for someone that isn’t just going to go and collect dust or end up in their storage closet.  I’ve put a lot of thought into what I bring into the shop and I want you to feel good about your gift buying :)

Happy Holidays!! xo
