HAPPY FRIDAY!

What a fun, busy weekend ahead! This Saturday June 16th is Roncesvalles annual festival of arts + music, Roncy Rocks.  The street remains open, but select side streets are closed off to accommodate stages for bands, artisan booths, art exhibitors and more!  All the details are on their website.  This is of course my first year open during the festival, so I’m super excited to see the street come even more alive!

As part of Roncy Rocks, Scout will have a sidewalk sale set up out front for the day!  I thought it would be a good opportunity to change some of the stock up and make room for new product.

Poster designed by Jason Williams

There will also be further reductions on Cokluch leather bags as well as other select items on sale in the shop!  So if you’ve had your eye on something…..

Last but not least!

Dear ol’ Dad

Posted on

It’s time to celebrate Dad! Well, almost time.  Father’s Day is Sunday June 17th.  Here are some great gift ideas to get you thinking  about dear ol’ Dad’s special day!

The number one coveted item by most men that come into the shop. Is he a Montreal fan or a Toronto fan? Every man needs his own special pillow to cuddle up with. Handmade in Toronto by Avril Loreti, and yes folks, those are the only two teams available :)

Music loving Dad’s will appreciate having a place to keep their precious concert tickets they’ve been collecting over the years.  Throw in a set of upcycled record coasters and a music box and you’re set!

Handmade in Vancouver by Henderson Dry Goods, these cuff links are made from solid walnut and acrylic mirror. An item to be loved and passed on for generations.

Canvas and vinyl wallets are the perfect man-cessory (I am copyrighting that word). Bikes, bears, as well as typewriters and foxes available. Handmade in San Francisco.

Of course, I’m still pushing flasks on everyone and anyone.  They really are a perfect little gift.  Take it to the golf course, take it to the baseball game, take it to the beach!

Been trying to get Dad to shave that awful moustache he’s been sporting since the 70′s?  Embrace the ‘stache and show your support with these hilarious moustache inspired gifts!

Speaking of getting Dad to shave..all natural shaving products for Men!  Made in Calgary available in a ready to give gift pack or individually.

Beer! Dad’s love beer! A wall mount bottle opener and this book showcasing bottles and cans from around the world and over the years wouldn’t be complete without a 6 pack of Dad’s favourite brew.

Don’t we all love anything CBC related? I’ve decided we do.  This shoulder bag is the perfect man bag. (Don’t worry ladies it’s perfect for you too! Let’s call it unisex shall we).  The journal is hand bound using an upcycled Radio Canada record, made by Toronto’s Papermuse Designs.  Scout ♥’s CBC.

Last but not least.. Thanks Dad for bringing home the bacon.  Merit Badge by Toronto’s Lee Maszaros

And of course, an amazingly unique selection of cards, perfect for each and every kind of Dad!

Just like Mom, the Dad post is not complete without a picture from the past of me and my Dad!

Thank you Dad for being so supportive of me and my vision.  Seeing you get excited about my dream helped motivate me and give me the confidence to see that this was an attainable goal, and I needed that. I’m so grateful for your support and your faith in me.  Love you Dad!

Now that’s a ‘stache! (Dad has since gone ‘stacheless..some tears were shed but it was nice to see the face hiding underneath!)

See you soon!

Spring has sprung at Scout!

Posted on

I’ve been neglecting the blog again.. all this social networking is tiring :)   Lots of new things have arrived in the last couple weeks so felt it was due time for an update!

Erin Templeton!  Who doesn’t love your soft recycled leather goods.

Along with the small leather goods I had last season (coin purses & makeup bags), I also ordered her TGIF & BYOB bags for Spring!  Loving the bright colours. The BYOB style even comes with a secret pocket for your tall can.  I think I hear the park calling!

Zippan Designs is back on the shelves!  She has expanded her line and now has these adorable critters available.  Still handcrafted in sterling silver and made in Toronto!  Lots of other designs available too for the less animal-y people. Feathers, stars, keys and the favourite anatomical heart.

Imm-Living hits the mark with these fabulous antler mugs.  Designed in Toronto with an obvious Canadian feel.  Is it a deer or a moose kind of a morning?

Smitten Kitten has introduced these kitschy Canadiana journals this spring! Printed in Canada on 100% recycled paper.

How sweet are these little barrel vases?! Made in Toronto by ceramic artist RCBoisjoli, a perfect housewarming gift.

New card line!! Flaming banjos and a Hoppy Birthday card from Two Guitars in Portland, Oregon.

Handmade picture frames from Mmim in New York!

New Rolls of wrapping paper from Waste Not Paper!  The name says it all. Their paper comes from mills that practice responsible, sustainable forestry. Waste Not also uses renewable energy sources, such as hydro power or wind power.

More adorable boxes made from found birch and cedar.  Made in London, ON.  This is my favourite of the bunch.

Another new jewellery line I’ve brought in for Spring! Mijuandyou is laser cut and etched jewellery made in Montreal.  All necklaces come on a 30″-32″ chain.

If you haven’t had a chance to come by and check out my windows, please do!  My friends Jacqui Gardner and Craig Hopgood blew me away (again) with their “In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb” installation.

HAPPY SPRING!

Ah dear blog followers.. It’s been a lot harder keeping up to date with my posts as I’m gearing up for the holiday season!! Lots of new exciting things have come into the shop these last couple of weeks and I thought before I bombard you with full on Christmas merch, here are a few of MY favourite new items!

Look at this little guy! Not only is he adorable just sitting on your shelf, but he’s a full functioning bottle opener too! Just got in so many goodies from this new, designed in T.O, home wares company, was hard to pick just one item!

What’s more annoying than trying to navigate your way around a new city… obviously FOLDING THE MAP BACK UP!  Genius crumpled maps are meant to be tossed in their little baggie, NO folding required!

I don’t even really wear make up or carry it around… but I’m still a sucker for these super soft recycled leather make up bags by Vancouver-ite Erin Templeton.

Regional Assembly of Text does it again.  Fantastic stationary to remind you a letter in the mail is still a loved gesture.

Last but not least, had to include a little bling!  This gold vermeil antler necklace also comes in Sterling Silver.  Not to worry, no animals were harmed in its making :D

There you go! A little summary to bring you, somewhat, up to date with all that’s new!  I’m getting shipments every day so keep checking in, and in the coming weeks I’ll start posting some great gift ideas for dudes, lovers, babies, mommies and everyone in between!

Yellow Owl Workshop

Posted on

I just posted yesterday about my obsession with letterpress cards, and today I got in a super awesome shipment from Yellow Owl Workshop!  More cards, printed this time, and beautiful handmade stamp sets.  All made in the lovely city of San Francisco, California!

Lovely gifts to give, or you can make your own cards!

All their cards are printed in San Francisco with veggie-based ink on 100% Recycled paper♥

This is just a little shout out  to one of the coolest places in San Francisco my friends and I stumbled across on our road trip a few years ago.  826 Valencia St. is honestly a must see if you ever find yourself that way.  It’s actually a place for writing workshops but the front is a devoted pirate store!! It’s amazing.. go see for yourself :)   (love you L&J..arrrr)

Operation: fruit crates!

Posted on

I’d decided I wanted to create the rustic shelving look using fruit crates.  They still have that antique look, without the antique price tag.  It’s been slim pickings though as the rustic look has been really popular and when I have found people selling them, they aren’t cheap.  I was told it was time to make a trip to Hamilton!

This place was pretty much giving these away they were so cheap!  I know they look a little rough around the edges, we definitely took the best of the lot!  You’ll have to wait until I’m open to see how it turns out…

Also decided since we were in Hamilton to go on a little scenic adventure.  Had no idea there was so many conservation areas around there.  Went to Dundas to see the Spencer Gorge and Webster Falls.  So pretty!

The Beautiful Project

Posted on

I’ve been told there are some shipments on the way, and I thought jewelery from Spruce DesignCo. would be first, but I was wrong.  I got a cute little package of sweet handmade cards from The Beautiful Project in Vancouver today.  These aren’t currently sold anywhere else in Toronto!  Love ‘em!

I ♥ San Fran

Posted on

Having been to San Francisco I knew it was a city full of creativity.  I was originally focusing a lot of my energy looking for wares for my shop made locally, but I’ve found so many great designers from the states I couldn’t help but expand.  I’m currently waiting on a shipment from Fluffyco.  Cute silk screened accessories and home wares are just scratching the surface of what this small San Francisco based company have to offer.

perfect gift for the grizzly beer lovers in your life :)
